Cheryl Crawford, ERYT- 500, RCYT, B.S.Ed.,Yoga Teacher, Co-Grounder
Cheryl Crawford is the Cat on the Mat. As co-founder of Grounded, Get Grounded Foundation and the non-profit yoga service initiative Grounded for Good, she has spent more than a decade fusing Dr. Seuss and other universally loved children’s books with yoga sutras to help kids find peace, poise and playfulness in their everyday lives.
Cheryl’s teaching journey began in an Atlanta elementary school classroom, where she worked as a classroom teacher, reading specialist and curriculum coordinator for 11 years. Working in schools and playing with words, she discovered that students were far more connected to their daily lessons when they felt not only heard, but understood. After giving birth to triplet daughters, Cheryl began practicing yoga and then sought a way to pair her newfound dedication to this ancient practice with her love of books and longstanding passion for teaching.
For guidance, all she had to do was listen to the budding yogis and yoginis in her midst.
“I saw that yoga was beneficial to all sorts of people, from three-year-old children to men who were homeless,” says Cheryl, who has taught yoga full-time since 2003. “Each of these populations has a lot to teach each other about the universal truths that can help us all be our best selves. That’s why I make a point of really listening to the people I teach, because I know there are others who can benefit from their wisdom. ”
Through breathing and mindful alignment (not to mention the occasional frisky rhyme), Cheryl believes that by asking “Are you safe? Are you sound? Are you whole? Are you well?” she can help students of all ages and abilities find the grounding they need to truly soar. Recognized by local, national and international media for her work in yoga education, Cheryl is also certified to teach Anusara, Correlation Vinyasa, Hot Core Power, YogaKids, Laughter Yoga and Radiant Child. Schools, homeless shelters, social workers and more seek Cheryl’s counsel on age- and situation-appropriate yoga curriculums that bring out the best in everyone so they can become open-hearted, flexible and confident on and off their mats.
Amy Haysman, ERYT 200, RCYT, M.Ed.,Yoga Teacher, Co-Grounder
Amy's yoga practice began in 1995 and soon revealed itself as the answer in her quest to feel better, experience life more fully and participate in making the world a more joyful place. Her life's work and passion is grounding kids, teens and schoolteachers and training others to do the same. Noticing that the parents of Grounded kids often need to get grounded too, she began teaching classes for grown ups in 2009. Amy is the co-founder of Grounded and Grounded for Good non-profit yoga service initiative.
She holds a Masters Degree in Middle Grades Education and taught Literature and Social Studies to middle schoolers for many years. Her affinity toward great stories and culture is often reflected in her classes. Her two teenage boys, fiery partner and a happy little labradoodle provide plenty of opportunities to fill up with love, laughter and learning so she naturally brings that into her teaching. She believes that teaching yoga is hard work and takes a lot of preparation and authenticity. She has found that the more energy she puts into planning a lesson that speaks to the highest of each person's being, delivering a universal message, not theming around what's age popular, the deeper her students go. Amy is dedicated to sincerely connecting with each student and helping them ground in their own truth so they find the inner power, security and light heartedness to elevate to their absolute highest potential.
Amy's certifications include YogaKids, Radiant Child, Laughter Yoga, Hatha Yoga and Anusara Inspired. Her ambition is to always be a student and a teacher. She is proud to have studied and worked with inspirational teachers such as YogaKids creators Marsha and Don Wenig and Shakta Kaur Khalsa, founder of Radiant Child. She is grateful to have trained under Mitchel Bleier, David Aukamp, RuthAnn Martin, Gina Minyard, Ross Rayburn, Sianna Sherman and Paul Muller-Ortega and continues to study with brilliant teachers from around the world.
Bruce Crawford, Managing Partner and "Director of All Things Complicated"
Bruce, although not a certified yoga instructor, he happens to be in love with one....which by the transitive property makes him kinda grounded. With over 20 years of engineering, sales, and business development experience in the telecom/data networking industry, Bruce decided to turn his talents and energy towards growing and developing Grounded, LLC.
With a mindful eye on the business operations aspect, his main focus is to remove obstacles, solve problems, and handle all things complicated so that Amy, Cheryl, and the rest of the Grounded community have more time to "Ground" kids and teens. In this capacity he is responsible for financial reporting, IT infrastructure, web design and operations, e-commerce initiatives, product management, and organizational efficiency.
An avid marathon runner and charter participant in the "Yoga For Stiff Guys" class, Bruce has experienced first hand the positive transformation yoga can enable and is grateful for the opportunity to be working with a talented community of teachers who are dedicating their practice towards "elevating" our younger generation through yoga and laughter.
